The pottery industry is a vital part of the fabric of Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire and it is critical of the areas cultural and economic DNA. The experiences of potters and pottery workers have been documented to some extent but the experience of women in the Pottery workplace has largely gone undocumented.
With help from the Heritage Fund we have created a film documenting the stories of women connected to the ceramics industry. It captures the memories of those who worked in various roles from decorators to lithographers, managers and designers, whilst shining a light on the historical perspective of the importance of women in the ceramic industries
The stories captured as part of this project will be shared in public screenings as well as being archived for future generations. We hope the films will offer a unique perspective on the role of women within the industry. By telling the stories of these succesful women, the attitudes they faced, the achievements they made and the friendships they formed we hope we will inspire another generation.
